| Our board | CAIN organization description: CAIN is a neighborhood ministry that transforms lives and inspires hope by providing nutritious food, crisis assistance, resources, and compassion in a way that respects human dignity and builds a more vibrant community. Programs include Food Pantry, Phil’s Place community meal and Grace Place shelter for homeless families. CAIN is located in the neighborhood of Northside and serves residents of 45223 & surrounding areas.Board Member skills, areas of expertise, & backgrounds, looking to fill: We are currently looking for individuals with experience in the areas of human resources/personnel, IT, facility management and fund development. Diversity of Board members including race, ethnicity, age, and skills are important to the CAIN Board. |

| Position | The External Affairs Committee is responsible for all outward-focused public awareness and support, including fundraising, developing and tracking outcomes of an annual fundraising plan, planning and tracking in-kind donations, public relations, marketing, and social media.External Affairs Committee meets the 1st Monday of the month from 5:15-6:30 PM at CAIN, 4234 Hamilton Avenue, Northside.Individuals may elect to serve only on the External Affairs Committee and not on the full Board unless interested. |

| Requirements | Board Member Roles: The Board of Directors of CAIN is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization.Board Member Responsibilities: • Understanding and supporting CAIN’s mission locally and in the larger community. • Serving as an ambassador and spokesperson to raise awareness of CAIN and CAIN’s mission. • Being familiar with CAIN’s service area, programs and guest needs. • Participating fully on at least one of CAIN’s committees. • Reviewing Board and committee meeting materials before the meetings. • Attending and actively participating in at least 75% of all Board meetings. • Helping achieve CAIN’s mission by actively participating in the donor cultivation process (e.g. donor identification, gift requests, relationship building, etc.). • Making a personal financial contribution to CAIN commensurate with one’s ability and interest. Goal is 100% Board member annual participation. • Identifying any potential conflicts of interest and following confidentiality policies. |

| On-boarding | Board application process: Prospective Board candidates should be referred to Lucy Crane, [email protected], Governance Committee Chair, to facilitate the application process. Board recruitment & application process includes: • Meeting with 2 members of the Board (typically Governance members & Board members) and meeting with Executive Director. • Tour of CAIN's programs & services. • Visiting Committees of the Board and Board meeting. • Completion of Board application including the selection of a sub Committee to serve on, in addition to the Board Committee. • Review/vetting of candidate and recommendation by the Governance Committee for membership. • Board approval of the candidate. |
