PositionThe Development Committee’s overarching role is to ensure Journey to Hope meets the philanthropic needs of the local funding community. The chair of the committee establishes the agenda, facilitates the regular meetings, and reports to the full board at the regular meetings. The committee is focused on fundraising, volunteer engagement, and meeting the needs of myriad constituencies in terms of connecting each to the mission in a meaningful way. They collaborate with the marketing and development coordinator and meet regularly to establish a culture of philanthropy. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1.     Assist with the design and development of an annual fundraising program that supports the mission and connects more people with charitable resources to Journey to Hope. The program should outline those methods of fundraising that makes sense any given fiscal year, such as annual fund, The Piggest Raffle Ever, and more.2.     Connect more donors, volunteers, coaches, group leaders, presenters, etc. to Journey to Hope’s mission, which will increase outputs and outcomes, and establish a solid supporter base.3.     Establish fundraising goals that are aligned with Journey to Hope’s strategic plan and supports financial sustainability.4.     Ensure that the board of directors is aware of all fundraising initiatives and encourage your peers on the board to attend and financially support all events.5.     Collaborate with the chair of the board for a clear message to all board members that part of their agreement to serve as a director is an annual financial contribution.

DonationWe strive for 100% board giving, but have no strict guidelines around financial contributions.
RequirementsWe require our board members to attend monthly board meetings, contribute personally meaningful funding, and to volunteer to help with various projects, ad hoc committees, and events in alignment with their skills and schedule.
On-boardingBoard member candidates are invited to attend one or more meetings in the fall before their term would begin in February. Once a mutual interest has been established, candidates also meet with the Executive Director and Board Chair to discuss what the commitment and expectations are, per our board member job description. The ED and Chair become a support network for the new board member.
