Board Treasurer

Our boardThe Board of Directors is the governing body of Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship. Directors are responsible for overseeing the organization's activities.Fiduciary duties of the board include: Duty of care, duty of loyalty, duty of obedience and duty of confidentiality.The Executive Director manages the day-to-day operations of Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship and reports to the Executive Committee.
PositionFinancial management and oversight: 1. Leads the Finance & Investment Committee, directly or indirectly with the support of a Committee member. 2. Oversees the integrity of the organization's statements: reviews monthly  bank statements, balance sheets and other financial reports. 3. Makes recommendations for and oversees selections of financial advisers, accountants and other industry professionals; disclosure controls and procedures and internal control over financial reporting; compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relating to accounting and financial reporting matters; and risk assessment and management and financial policies and procedures.Budgets: 1. Facilitates the preparation of annual budget with Executive Director and budget managers. 2. Presents the budget to the Board of Directors for adoption. 3. Reviews budget and year-to-date performance with Board of Directors at regularly scheduled board meetings and other meetings as necessary.Reporting: 1. Have thorough knowledge and understanding of the organization's financial reports and important financial ratios. 2. Keep Board of Directors apprised of key financial events, trends and concerns; and his/her assessments of the organization's fiscal health. 3. Completes or facilitates completion of required financial reporting forms, including IRS Form 990, in a timely manner and making these forms available for review by the Board of Directors.Financial Liaison: 1. Translate financial concepts and information for board members who do not have financial backgrounds or substantial financial experience. 2. Learns the particulars of the organization's finances and the applicable laws, which may include laws related to earned income, the unrelated business income tax, appropriate expenditures and prudent investments. 3. Facilitates and encourages the Board of Directors strategic thinking about short-term and long-term financial vitality of the organization in relation to its advancement of the organization's mission.

RequirementsResponsibilities of Board of Directors include: 1. Be informed about the organization's mission, services, therapies, programs and policies. Keep up-to-date on developments in the organization's field. 2. Advocate and network on behalf of the organization. 3. Attend, actively participate in and prepare for all board meetings. Review agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings. (One board meeting may be missed for an unavoidable conflict.) 4. Join one or more board committee(s)/task force(s) and actively participate in committee/task force meetings and responsibilities. 5. Make a philanthropic contribution to the organization. While there is not a required minimum contribution to serve the the board, Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship does ask that we are one of your top three philanthropic beneficiaries. 6. Support and attend 75 percent of the organization's special events (number of events varies). 7. Suggest possible board nominees who may make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization. 8. Maintain fiduciary responsibilities of the board. 9. Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies. 10. Refrain from making special requests of the staff.
