Our boardDo you have a passion for working with children? Are you looking to make a difference in your community?  Our mission is simple: To give families throughout Clermont County safety resources through outreach, trainings, and events. One of the major projects that the organization will be undertaking will be creating a free standing, child-sized, interactive Safety Village for all children, families, and community members who reside in Clermont County. PositionThe Treasurer reports to the Board the ongoing financial viability and stability of the Association while monitoring the Association’s financial information. The Treasurer creates and oversees the Governance Budget (the budget of the Board). Additionally, the Treasurer is responsible for the following:
  • Serves on the executive committee
  • Serves as the chair of the Finance Committee
  • Manages, with the Finance Committee, the Board’s review of, and action related to the Board’s financial responsibilities.
  • Prepares the annual budget and presenting the budget to the Board for approval.
  • Works with the Finance Committee to develop Fiscal Policies for recommendation to the Board to ensure the financial integrity and sustainability of the organization.
  • Works with the Finance Committee and Board President to develop long-term financial strategies.
  • Keeps currently informed of legal, regulatory and sector developments relating to the Board’s financial responsibilities.
  • Ensures all financial records are up to date and accurate.
  • Provides leadership in preparing the annual budget.
  • Acts as the official custodian of the organization’s funds.
  • Annually provides a complete report of all financial transactions for audit.
  • Reconciles the monthly accounting records and monitors income and expenditures.
  • Ensures that the financial reports needed for each board meeting are prepared and submitted in a timely and accurate manner.

RequirementsBoard members are expected to be fully informed on organizational matters, to contribute to debate on issues and to contribute to the Board’s policy deliberations. They are expected to understand and support Caution for Kids of Clermont County’s mission statement and strategic plan. Board member duties include the following:
  • Attend meetings and show commitment to Board activities.
  • Be well informed on issues and agenda items in advance to meetings.
  • Participate on one or more committees or in an ad hoc manner as requested by the Board President or Vice President.
  • Monitor public response to the work and policies of the Organization.
  • Participate in Board orientation meetings to ensure organizational and fund development knowledge and to participate in volunteer and donor recognition events.
  • Provide candid, open, and honest feedback and evaluation when appropriate.
  • Take initiative in informing the organization about opportunities for funding or program development.
  • Identify individuals in the community for volunteer participation or funding support.
  • Provide leadership within the Board and in the community on behalf of the organization and its programs.
  • Caution for Kids strives for 100% Board giving. Each Board Member is asked to make a financial contribution to Caution for Kids each year in an amount that is meaningful to them, whether that involves joining our monthly giving program, or donating at a time throughout the year convenient to you.
On-boardingOnce applicant has been approved to serve on the Caution for Kids Board of Directors, board members will complete a formal board orientation and will be placed with a veteran board mentor.
Additional InfoBoard members work both individually and collectively in governing Caution for Kids of Clermont County affairs through the development, approval, and evaluation of policy and budget. As a committee member, the board member provides planning and implementation services to the Board. The board member acts on the board’s behalf in accordance only with board motions and policy guidelines and only as requested and in accordance with Board resolutions with respect to representation of the organization. This position serves a staggered term of three years; re-eligible for one additional term. Termination may occur at the end of the elected term, by resignation or pursuant to the Caution for Kids of Clermont County by-laws. A minimum of one-year experience in finance or accounting in a paid or volunteer setting. A thorough understanding of record keeping, accounting systems, and financial reporting that fit the needs of Caution for Kids of Clermont County are needed. High attention-to-detail, strong communication skills and love of numbers are a must to succeed in this role. An understanding of the effective functioning of a charitable organization, familiarity with Clermont County and working with and on behalf of children. Financial knowledge of the organization; Understanding of financial accounting for nonprofit organizations.
