On-boarding | Before joining our board, our Board Chair has an initial phone call with the prospective board member. During this call, he reviews the organization's history, vision/mission, goals, and progress to date. Our Board Chair also learns about the personal and professional background of the candidate and why he or she wishes to join the board. If there is an interest from the prospective board member to continue with the process, he or she will complete a board of directors application. Once this application is completed and turned in, the prospective board member is interviewed by the Executive Director and current board members. Those interested in serving on our board must give three contacts for the organization to complete a reference check on all candidates. Then, Guiding Light Mentoring Board of Directors votes on whether to invite the prospective board member to the board. The prospective board member is then notified via phone call or email. If the decision is made to invite the prospective board member to join the board, he or she will be officially welcomed at the next in-person board meeting. |
