Our boardOur dedicated Board of Trustees is a diverse group of professionals from Cincinnati and around the United States, committed to fulfilling the mission of SOTENI. Board members are actively engaged in advancing the strategic goals of SOTENI in the United States and in Kenya.SOTENI's Board is a working Board. Members are asked to serve on a Board Committee, and are directly involved with organization strategic planning; program innovation and monitoring & evaluation; financial management; establishing fundraising goals; representing SOTENI to their respective communities and advocating for its mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Requirements•     We prefer that Board Members live in or around Cincinnati to facilitate one on one connections with other Board Members, our staff, and local donors. We would consider remote Board Members.•     SOTENI Board Member responsibilities include attendance at regular board meetings (average 5-6 per year), the Annual Retreat, as well as teleconference meetings and active electronic conversations as part of Board committees.•     Board members are asked to serve on one or more Board committees depending on their interests, and to actively participate in committee work.•     Board members hold a fiduciary responsibility for management of organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with the organization’s status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.•     Board terms last for two years and board members can serve for up to two consecutive terms. After a one-year absence following the second term, a board member may be invited back.•     If a member needs to leave the Board prior to the end of two years, the Board will determine a replacement at the next scheduled meeting. The attendance policy allows for removal if three consecutive meetings are missed without notice.

SOTENI is currently recruiting for April 2019 start dates, but will keep interested candidate's information on file.Onboarding begins with a meeting with the Board Chair and Executive Director for an orientation. Board orientation covers the organization's history, mission and guiding principles and all recent organization documents - including financial and board reports. The onboarding process is a joint review of the board manual which includes: board member roles & responsibilities, board member agreement and conflict of interest agreement and all other pertinent documentation.
