Board Member – Marketing/Events
Our board | Directors should have a keen interest in global issues and recognize the importance of making a difference in how Cincinnati sees the world and how the world sees Cincinnati as an international city. There are currently 16 Board of Directors including 4 Executive Committee members and 11 Advisory Group members. The World Affairs Council does have a working board with a set of committees.When you become a board member, you receive a board book and training session. We also provide you with a mentor who is on our board to help with any questions peer to peer during your first year. During board meetings, we use a consent agenda for routine materials so that we can focus on decision making items at board meetings. Openness is key to how we work. Our board is a working board. We meet on the second Monday of each month skipping August at noon at Interact for Health. |

Position | We are seeking a board member interested in helping to create and implement an annual marketing plan for the organization including social media, press releases, and overall creative brand strategy. We no longer want to be the "best kept secret" and this person will help to design an approach to help increase awareness of the organization's impact and opportunities for connections. |

Requirements | - Attend 50% Board meetings and make the World Affairs Council a priority in terms of time and attention. Send a proxy if you cannot attend a board meeting yourself. - Contribute and actively participate in raising funds by making commitments to the membership program, special events, capital campaigns, and other fund raising requests. All Directors must be members either individually or through their institutions. Directors will be asked to help provide and secure contributions for which a need has been identified by the organization. Directors will be expected to make a contribution each year through a combination of their membership level, a personal or corporate contribution, sponsorship of events, bringing in sponsors of events, ticket sales or other cash generating actions. |

On-boarding | Prior to joining the board, we ask that you show your commitment and passion to this important international work in prior months. As an initial step, we would ask that you sign up to receive our weekly newsletter. You will find upcoming events and volunteer opportunities available there. In addition to receiving emails, we would encourage you to consider joining as an individual member at $100 to show your commitment to this important international work. The Executive Director would love to set up a time to talk with you by phone or over coffee. In about September/October of each year, we will touch base again with interested candidates who would be join the board in January of the following year. The Council hopes to see you a few times before that time at events or getting involved through volunteering. Here is the process as we take that next step towards board membership in the fall: 1. Please send your resume 2. Nominating chair will call you to talk further about expectations 3. Invitation to join Executive Director and 1-2 Board of Directors for lunch 4. Nominated at a board meeting 5. If accepted, official elections at January annual meeting The council is looking forward to getting to know your passions and interests in joining.
