Board Member – Fundraising

Our boardDohn Community High School is a successful public charter school that was established in 2001. Our Board is hands-on, relating to policy and financial governance. The Board has oversight on new hires; however, the Board is not involved with the staff's performance evaluation, except for the Executive Director.Dohn's Board is exceptional in its performance of fiscally sound governance.  Anyone familiar with charter schools knows that Dohn's longevity is outstanding.  This success is due to the effectiveness of Dohn's Board and the positive working relationship between the Board and the school leadership.Dohn's Board has the following Committees:
  • Financial
  • Development
  • Building
  • Race and Equality (suspended due to COVID and the challenge of meeting virtually for 20+ people, which include staff members)
PositionDohn Community High School’s Board is looking to add a board member with interests, skills, and experience in optimizing Dohn's Donor Relations, Corporate Sponsorships, Fundraising, and Grant Awards.  You will join of Board of colleagues committed to advancing racial equity in Cincinnati and positively impacting the futures of Cincinnati's most underserved youth.As the Fundraising Board Member, you are responsible for overseeing and adding to Dohn's fundraising plan and engaging all board members in fundraising activities according to their interests and capacities. This board member has strong community connections and networks, with access to and knowledge about individual, corporate, and foundation resources, great people skills, and an engaging personality that displays comfort and ease talking about money and finances.In this position, you would also join Dohn’s Development Committee, comprised of three board members and two Dohn Staff members.  This committee meets virtually, once a quarter.Please forward CV, along with a cover letter, to Diana Puppin, Dohn Marketing and Branding Director, [email protected] you for your interest!

WhenThe third Thursday, every other month from 4 to 6 PM. Committees meet the alternate month, on varying dates.
WhereThe Board meets virtually during COVID and when it is safe to meet in person again, the Board meets at Dohn's Main Campus, 608 E. McMillan Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206
Commitment3 to 5 hours/month
DonationWe strive for 100% board giving, but have no strict guidelines around financial contributions.
RequirementsRequirements for Dohn Board Membership include:
  • Appreciation of charter schools as an effective educational option for some students
  • Diversity by age, race, gender
  • A background in education helps, though not necessary.
  • Endorsement of racial equity
  • An innovative mindset that aligns with offering educational programs that meet the student where they are, in contrast to the student having to fit the program
  • A vision of the future that includes promoting opportunity for forgotten, disenfranchised, marginalized youth who are also full of potential and eager to succeed
  • Leadership skills that include expressing truth and working well as a team
On-boardingDohn's Onboarding Process includes orientation to Dohn through a review of :
  • A history of the organization
  • An introduction to Charter Schools, their value and function in Cincinnati
  • An introduction to the innovative educational model of developing programs around the student instead of asking them to form-fit into a program. (Such programs at Dohn include Credit Recovery, Keeping Teen Moms in School, Gifted and Talented Education, Dohn Corps (a partnership with Job Corps) 22+ Adult Education and Dohn Prep).
  • A get-to-know the Executive Director, other Board Members, School Leadership
  • Opportunity for questions and answers
  • Formal Board application with approval by Dohn's Charter School sponsor
  • A welcome to the Board
