Board Member – Fundraising

Our boardThe Founding Board of the Loveland Initiative formed over 20 years ago on the principal that every single member of our community, no matter their community standing, wealth, education, or life circumstances has valuable ASSETS they can bring to the table in solving their community's problems and meeting a community's needs. The organization focuses its attention through a wide variety of programs to help lower income residents meet basic needs along with educational enrichment. The Board Consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive Director that provide strategic oversight of the organization, with a mission to provide educational support and assistance to under-served children and their families. The organization holds a Tax-Exempt status under Section 501 (c)(3) of the IRS Code.
PositionResponsible for overseeing the organization's overall fundraising and, in particular, the fundraising done by the board. To accomplish this, its responsibilities are:• To work with staff to establish a fundraising plan that incorporates a series of appropriate vehicles, such as special events, direct mail, product sales, etc.• To work with board members in their efforts to raise money.• To take the lead in certain types of outreach efforts, such as chairing a dinner/dance committee or hosting fundraising parties, etc.• To be responsible for involvement of all board members in fundraising, such as having board members make telephone calls to ask for support, and• To monitor fundraising efforts to be sure that ethical practices are in place, that donors are acknowledged appropriately, and that fundraising efforts are cost-effective.

RequirementsBoard members are required to: 1. Meet the 3rd Thursday of every month, except July and December; 2. Attend 8 Board meetings per year; 3. Be active with projects, programs, and fundraising; and 4. Be a positive voice for The Loveland InitiativeSubmit a letter of interest to Terri Rogers-Executive Director: [email protected] Letter of interest should include: a brief bio, how you heard about TLI, why you want to serve on the Board, and what positive attributes or skills you can bring that will support the work of the Board. 
On-boardingOrientation is the process of educating board members about their roles, responsibilities, the organization, and how the board works. A thorough orientation gets a new board member engaged quickly and off to a running start. The President conducts the orientation. Required board training will be held one week prior to the member’s “initial” meeting. All Board members are required to complete orientation.
