Our board | Your Store of the Queen City seeks board members with a variety of skills and lived experiences to dedicate themselves to community-based emergency and systems-change work that creates equity in food access across neighborhoods in Cincinnati. Our board meets once monthly, and board members are expected to join one of 3 committees: Finance (business, retail & budgets), Governance (administrative & legal oversight) or Development (fundraising & networking).Your Store of the Queen City is the 501c3 nonprofit organization that is parent to Meiser's Fresh Grocery & Deli. It was founded in 2019 through Lower Price Hill neighbor leadership, with a mission that will create neighborhood-based entities to expand fresh food access and create community-based jobs by supporting the development and networking of resident-centered, culturally and economically inclusive enterprises in food desert areas of Cincinnati, OH.Meiser’s Fresh Grocery & Deli is proud to be a sustainable, trustworthy, diverse Lower Price Hill neighbor-led social enterprise that 1. Offers free and affordable fresh products based on community demand; 2. Brings money into Lower Price Hill through jobs and supporting entrepreneurship; and 3. Connects people through a friendly, inclusive atmosphere and community activities. |

Requirements | Board members should bring clear communication and project management skills, cultural humility, and a desire to understand the human, governmental, economic, environmental, healthcare and food systems that intersect in the manifestation of present-day food access inequities that marginalize and harm people.The ideal board member will bring a solution oriented, strengths-based approach to visioning and teamwork, offering 3-5 hours a month to participate actively in monthly board meetings, a monthly committee meeting, support certain projects and actively respond to inter-meeting communications.Desired experiences of board members includes either professional (examples: finance, strategy, retail, restaurant, supply chain, nonprofit, social, health, research, legal, administrative, HR, organizing, government, volunteering, advocacy) and/or lived experiences relating to the mission of Your Store of the Queen City, and active passion for collaborative learning and growth as well as consistent communication skills. |

On-boarding | 1 Ideation for Recruiting: Board members ideate and refer 1-2 potential candidates to board for consideration, via Governance Committee.2 Governance Vetting: Prospect vetting by Executive or Governance Committee, and referral to process.3 Interest Development: Connection from YSQC inquires with candidate as to their interest in learning more about the possibility of joining the board. They explain the recruitment process. Distribution of One-Pagers and recruitment process after this call.4 Prospect self-led learning: Prospect is then encouraged to visit website www.yourstoreqc.org, social media @yourstoreqc and @meisersfresh and also shop at YSQC's flagship initiative Meiser's Fresh Grocery & Deli 738 State Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45204 themselves, independently, to learn about the social enterprise and community culture from an individual perspective.5 Board Intro Call: After completing a shopping trip and Q&A , candidate will receive overview of Your Store of the Queen City Board Membership and discuss history, programs and strategy and board membership with leaders.6 Board Application: Submit board application and resume or Linkedin.7 Shadow a Board Meeting and a Committee Meeting: Opportunity for participating and introductions, via Zoom or in-person depending on meeting8 Board Vote: Board review and vote on prospective applicant.9 Board Commitment Meeting: Complete board commitment form with board leadership10 Board Training: Introduction to Bylaws, Programming, Strategic Planning, Budgets, online media accounts and other relevant aspects of the organizational operations from a board perspective. |
