Board Member

Our boardThe TTN Board is a working board with each Board member actively serving on one of the following committees: Programming, External Affairs, Finance and Board Development. The Board meets bi-monthly for 2 hours and committees meet monthly or every other month for an hour.  There may be tasks to perform in between meetings.
PositionGeneral Expectations 1. Support TTN’s mission, purposes, goals, policies, and programs, while knowing its strengths and needs. 2. Suggest possible nominees to the board who are men or women of achievement who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the progress of TTN. 3. Serve actively on at least one committee. 4. Provide input and feedback on the performance of staff members. 5. Attend activities and events sponsored by TTN whenever possible.  Promote TTN activities and events. 6. Participate in membership drives to help build membership.Meetings 1. Prepare for and participate in all board and assigned committee meetings. 2. Ask timely and substantive questions at board and committee meetings consistent with personal conscience and convictions, while supporting the majority decision on issues decided by the board. 3. Maintain confidentiality of the board’s executive sessions, and speak for the board or for TTN only when authorized to do so. 4. Suggest agenda items periodically for board and committee meetings to ensure that significant policy-related matters are addressed.Avoiding Conflicts 1. Serve TTN as a whole rather than any special interest group or constituency. 2. Avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest that might embarrass the board or TTN, and disclose any possible conflicts to the board in a timely fashion. 3. Never accept (or offer) favors or gifts from (or to) anyone who does business with TTN.Fiduciary Responsibility 1. Exercise prudence with the board in the control and transfer of funds. 2. Faithfully read and understand TTN’s financial statements and other-wise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibility.Fundraising 1. Become a member of the TTN as outlined in the by-laws and encourage other agency memberships, with the realization of the leadership role the board must play in fund development. 2. Assist TTN by implementing fundraising strategies through personal influence with others. 3. Participate actively in all TTN fundraising special events, programs, and activities.

DonationWe strive for 100% board giving, but have no strict guidelines around financial contributions.
RequirementsBoard members are expected to attend 6 Board meetings per year, to participate in fundraising events, and to serve on a committee. Board members must also become members of the Tristate Trauma Network or encourage their agency to become a member, this includes paying annual dues.  Individual dues are $90. Although we do not currently require any other financial contribution, we are considering a minimal "give or get".
On-boardingCandidates meet with the Executive Director and at least one Board member. They are welcome to shadow a Board meeting. Candidates complete an application and information is shared with all Board members who vote on acceptance during a Board meeting. Once voted in, new Board members are assigned a mentor and are oriented to the agency and Board procedures.
Our missionThe mission of the Tristate Trauma Network (TTN) is to create a community-wide commitment to the prevention of and recovery from trauma and toxic stress by building awareness, offering high-quality training to professionals, serving as a clearinghouse for information and resources, fostering collaboration, and developing trauma-informed, trauma-responsive systems of care.
