Board Member

Our board10 - 18 member Governance Board for Cooperative for Education (CoEd), providing strategic perspective, technical competence, direct support and oversight (of the Executive Director). Serving on CoEd’s board or Committees is an exciting opportunity to work with other great individuals in service of the poor and disadvantaged in Guatemala - being part of “breaking the cycle of poverty through education". We also consider individuals for key Committees - Development, Finance, and Governance that may want to support the organization and its mission, yet not be full Board members at this time.

DonationWe strive for 100% board giving, but have no strict guidelines around financial contributions.
RequirementsThe CoEd Board has a few primary responsibilities:1. Mission and Strategy: To look at the organization "from 10,000 feet" and determine if the mission is robust, if the mission is being accomplished through effective strategies and to ensure that the mission is continually re-invigorated. 2. Stewardship of funds: To ensure that the organization’s funds are being managed in a responsible manner and are focused towards achieving maximum results against the mission. 3. Oversight: To ensure that the organization is being managed in a sound, professional and ethical manner. 4. Direct Support (Fundraising, “Friend Raising”): Directly supporting the organization in obtaining the resources necessary to build upon its mission. This includes both direct financial support as well as being a conduit for CoEd with other sources of support.
On-boardingIncludes several steps, which include: - Meeting with a member of the Governance Committee to share about the Board and board-member roles. - Reviewing provided materials on the Board (Member Guidelines and By-laws) - Meeting with an individual mentor who is a member of the Board and will help with understanding and integration.Committee Members would meet with the committee Chair and/or key staff member
