Board Member

Our boardBoard members provide oversight of the organization's programs, finances and marketing. Board members maintain communication with the Board President, Executive Director, and other board members.
PositionMarjorie Book Continuing Education Board members play a vital role in providing oversight of the organization’s program, publicity and finances. Marjorie Book appreciates the important work in which its Board members engage.Duties:Each member of the Marjorie Book Board of Directors will:· Attend the majority of board meetings (more than 50%) each year. Meetings are typically held by phone seven times per year and twice a year in person. The President shall be responsible for planning and facilitating the board meetings with input from the Executive Director. The Vice President will run the meetings when the President is unavailable. The Secretary will take and distribute minutes electronically. The Treasurer will collaborate with the Executive Director to prepare an updated financial report for review at each board meeting.· Be familiar with, support and promote the mission statement and the by-laws of Marjorie Book Continuing Education. The Secretary will insure that the board members have the most current information.· Maintain communication with the Board President, Executive Director and other board members.· Attend at least one Marjorie Book fundraising event each year.· Attend at least two Marjorie Book program events each year, one of which should be a non-theater event.· Serve on an ad-hoc committee as deemed necessary to accomplish the annual goals of the Board.· Maintain oversight of the Executive Director. This oversight includes selecting, compensating, and if necessary termination of the Executive Director.· Evaluate the Marjorie Book programs, goals and annual calendar as set by Executive Director.· Maintain oversight of the organization finances. This oversight includes reviewing and approving an annual budget, overseeing adherence to it and prioritizing expenses when the entire budget is unavailable.

RequirementsBoard members are expected to attend a majority of Board Meetings (more than 50 percent) each year. Board members are required to attend one fundraising event each year, along with two Marjorie Book programs each year (one should be a non-theater event).
On-boardingPotential Board members typically meet with the Executive Director and observe at one Board meeting. Participation on the Board is completely voluntary and does not result in any compensation.
