Our boardThe Cincinnati Boychoir is one of the premiere professional boychoirs in the United States. Founded in 1965 and located in the urban arts core of Cincinnati at the Aronoff Center for the Arts, the Boychoir reaches approximately 200 young men each year from more than 90 schools in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.We offer programs in the vocal arts for boys in grades 3-12 from all over the Cincinnati region, with emphasis on artistry, personal growth, community engagement and cultural appreciation.The Board of Trustees at the Cincinnati Boychoir is a volunteer governing board that is currently made up of fifteen trustees and two ex-officio members representing several industries spanning financial, real estate, marketing, and research and development. Meetings occur monthly, and are currently conducted online.Core board committees include Executive, Finance, and Development. Committees that meet on a less frequent basis, or as-needed, include Program, Nominating, Fundraising, Personnel, and Governance.Our current board demographic make-up includes four African American, one Hispanic with the balance being Caucasian. We have eleven women and six men. Ages of current board members range from 30-65, and includes one Boychoir alumnus and four former Boychoir parents. Tenure of current trustees ranges from fifteen years to less than one year.
PositionThe Cincinnati Boychoir is seeking a professional with legal expertise to serve on our Board of Trustees, and who, in addition to regular and engaged board participation, is willing to offer perspective and guidance when occasional legal matters arise, and who also will assist with the review of contracts, policies and other legal documents.

RequirementsCandidates for the Cincinnati Boychoir’s Board of Trustees must apply and be reviewed and approved by the board. Trustees may serve two three-year terms based on the interest of the individual. A third and subsequent term renewal must be approved by the board. All trustees must complete and sign an annual board commitment, conflict of interest statement, and board pledge form.All trustees are expected to attend and actively participate in monthly meetings, as well as actively serve on at least one board committee.Trustees are expected to make a monetary donation to the Cincinnati Boychoir annually for the duration of their board service. There is no minimum donation required, although the amount of the donation should be significant to the individual making the contribution.Although not required, it is encouraged that our board members participate in Boychoir activities, such as attending rehearsals and/or performances, participating and inviting guests to our events, and actively promoting the organization in the community.
On-boardingProspective candidates will meet with the Board Chair and Executive Director for an introduction to the organization and to answer any questions. If there is mutual interest in pursuing board membership, the candidate may attend and observe a regular meeting, if desired. Additional meetings may be arranged with other organizational stakeholders as needed/desired.A formal application must be submitted to be considered as a trustee. The board will review and approve applications at regular meetings, as applicable. Once approved, the new trustee will be paired up with a current board member as a mentor in their first year on the board.Incoming trustees will receive access to an online board resource folder, which includes organizational information such as by-laws, a directory, a calendar of events, committee assignments, and meeting reports and other relevant documents.
