There are currently 11 Directors, with a maximum number currently set at 15. Directors are considered and elected by a majority of the existing Directors to terms of three years. Candidates need to be a minimum of 18 years of age. There are no residency or other requirements or mandates to serve. CURE uses a variety of public and private grants along with private donations to fund property acquisitions and redevelopment in keeping with the newly approved Mt Airy Neighborhood Plan. Board Description CURE operates with an officer contingent of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Directors chair committees which are designed to involve community volunteers. Director terms are staggered, with one-third of the Directors elected/re-elected each year. Officers and Directors are term-limited. There are no paid staff at this time. Formatted Board Requirements CURE Directors sign a Board Commitment Form to facilitate the organization's fiscal planning and to eliminate repetitive requests. Fundraising is a major part of a board member's responsibility, and financial support of the annual appeal and special events is expected. Board members are expected to make an annual financial contribution according to their personal means. Commitments may be fulfilled through personal financial contributions, matching employer donations, the solicitation of contributions from sponsors/private donors, and include a commitment to planning, hosting and participating in fund development events and activities. Directors adhere to established policies addressing self-identifying and reporting possible conflicts of interest, establishing a code of ethics, setting confidentiality requirements and providing for whistleblower protection. Board Requirements Formatted Onboarding The onboarding process includes the submission of a resume or brief biography including the candidate's full name and contact information. The submission should include current/most recent and/or applicable work and/or volunteer experience, level of education (including any specific degrees or awards) and most importantly, a detailed explanation of why and how the candidate is a good fit for service to the Mt Airy community. Candidate submissions will be reviewed by the Governance Committee for interview consideration. Onboarding Candidates approved through the onboarding interview process will be invited to the next monthly meeting of the Board of Directors. Following the meeting, the full board will discuss and vote on the candidate. Successful candidates are notified and then expected to sign commitment statements and board policies prior to assuming a Director position.
