We ask that our board members serve on a sub-committee and provide guidance and efforts to help support and serve the mission of IHNGC. Most of our board members participate in supporting IHNGC financially, but it is not a strict requirement. We want and need board members that have skills in development, event planning, legal matters, financial matters, congregational partnership, and human resources experience. Our board meets six time per year currently with committee meetings roughly once per month (it may vary per committee). We ask for a three year commitment, although many board members have served longer. An ideal board size for us is approximately 14 members. We also seek to have one or two former clients serve on the board. We currently have two former clients on the board. Formatted Board Requirements Board Requirements From our board member contract: As a volunteer leader of Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati (IHNGC), my actions and demonstrated leadership provide an example for other volunteers to follow. It is my responsibility to help establish, nurture, and maintain relationships that advance our mission. Further, it is my responsibility to ensure adequate resources are generated for our mission and that proper fiduciary oversight is maintained. I commit to fulfill my role in the following ways: 1. Regularly attend board and committee meetings, and if circumstances don’t allow, to inform the President or Committee Chair of my absence. The Board’s main mode of communication is e-mail. I will respond to such communications within 72 hours unless on vacation. 2. Be an active advocate for IHNGC. Possibilities for advocacy include, but are not limited to: ● Speak knowledgeably about IHNGC to my church congregation, Mission Group, or other organizations. ● Initiate opportunities for others who express interest to visit the Day Center; meet staff; or volunteer with the guests. ● Meet with co-workers; my company’s foundation or granters; other organizations to which I belong to explain how they might support IHNGC. ● Seek out and making connections between IHNGC and other sources of support or influence in the community. 3. Actively participate in fundraising for IHNGC. Options include, but are not limited to: ● Be a table captain for the Interfaith Breakfast, or invite guests to sit with me at someone else’s table. ● Volunteer to work at the Breakfast--in preparation, with the program, or with clean up. ● Volunteer for other fundraisers or plan another fundraising event (like a golf outing or 5K Run or Happy Hour) ● Host a “Thank You” event for donors. ● Introduce to the Development Chair those people I know who might be willing volunteers, Table Captains, or donors. 4. Make a personal financial contribution annually to IHNGC, making IHNGC one of the top charities that I support. 5. Serve on at least one IHNGC Board Committee. 6. Attend at least one IHNGC Special Event annually. 7. Volunteer at the Day Center, in a congregation, at Grace Place, on special projects, as much as my time allows. 8. Complete a self-evaluation annually that outlines my personal assessment of my contributions according to these expectations. Formatted Onboarding Onboarding We ask that you submit a resume which will be reviewed by the executive director and the governance committee. Then a meeting would be scheduled to meet with one or two members of the governance committee and discuss your candidacy. We also recommend a visit to the Day Center in Walnut Hills for a tour and to get a feel for what IHNGC does. If the governance committee approves and you agree to the invitation to join the board, you would be presented to the whole board for a vote. There are several levels of orientation depending on your experience and knowledge of IHNGC.
